Mount Vernon Brew Club

Minutes from Aug. 21, 2025

Friday, August 22, 2025

  • Meeting called to order
  • T-shirts
    • Dark heathered grey
    • If you have not sent SK your size, please do so ASAP!
  • SK's Little Fish Brewing (Athens) Hippie Soufflé
    • Weed themed (but no actual weed)
    • Can't miss it
    • Comes from the terpines, but unsure as to what stage those flavonoids are added
  • AW's Hoof Hearted Brewing (Marengo) Rose Gose
    • Doesn't taste like beer
    • Hibiscus comes off strong
    • Not too salty (compared to other goses)
  • TS's Ghost Tree (Cincinnati) Coffee Blonde
    • Smells like coffee
    • It's a coffee beer!
    • First sip has a lot of coffee, but it goes away the more you drink
  • JB's Masthead (Cleveland) Coffee Stout
    • Coffee beer
    • Tastes like a coffee beer
    • Pretty standard, especially as coffee stouts go
    • Ethiopian single origin coffee added
  • CB's Modest (Minneapolis) Breffix Breakfast Stout
    • Has more of a full body compared to the Masthead
    • Still sweet
    • The subtle (but noticeable) molasses note adds something
    • Different, but not necessarily better than the Masthead
  • TG's Founder's (Grand Rapids) Breakfast Stout
    • Drier, especially compared to the Modest
    • Coffee notes are slightly muted
    • Less sweet
    • Oats give it body without giving it sweetness
  • CB's Zaftig Brewing (Columbus) Breakfast Stout
    • Hot
    • Sour
    • Alcohol overpowers the coffee
  • JB's Drekker (Fargo) Bloody Brains Double Fruit Smoothie Sour
    • Smells and tastes like candy, but not in an offputting way
    • Compared to other "candy" sours (the Warheads and Sour Patch Kids gimmick beers come to mind), this still counts as "beer"
    • Strawberry is very strong
    • Discovery: the ABV can be printed on the bottom of the can
  • JB's Little Fish Brewing (Athens) x Seventh Son Brewing (Coluumbus) My Many Smells Sour
    • Dry
    • After the initial "stench," actually pretty good
    • Tropical notes definitely come through
  • Next meeting
    • Club funds were used to purchase a Siebel sensory training kit, which includes five common off-flavors.
    • An email will be sent for RSVPs, since the kit is single-use, and we want to maximize use!
    • Please respond!
