- Meeting called to order
- AW's "Double Simcoe Daydream" (Other Half Brewing, Brooklyn) Double Dry Hopped Imperial Oat Cream IPA
- Good mouthfeel
- Very pleasant fruitiness
- Not a lot of aroma on the nose, but a lot of strong mouth flavors
- Canning date was July 2023, but it held up well for being a year old
- Its good aging can probably be best attributed to it probably being kept cold for a majority of that time
- JB's Little Fish (Athens) IPA
- Not unpleasant, but a little weird
- Think they use all Ohio malts
- Very piney
- Funk?
- Bell pepper? Or vegetal? Seems phenolic...
- Asphalt?
- BM's homebrew IPA
- Bitter backend
- Didn't go overboard on the hops, even though it was strongly hopped with YCH Pink! hops (~14% AA)
- 1/4 lb at 185°F after flameout
- 3/4 lb used to dry-hop
- Yeasted using wild yeasts from a bayberry
- Backsweetened twice, but still pretty dry
- AW's homebrew IPA
- Super-dry, very "champaign"-like
- Bitter, but not as bitter as expected
- 15% AA hops, single hop varietal
- Thinks he mashed too low, stalled at about 1.014, so added random stuff and boiled for 75 minutes to get up to 1.046 OG
- Tastes very dry, which matches the FG of 1.004
- TG's homebrew IPA
- Pineapple! Also pear, peach, apricot, and passionfruit notes
- Nectaron hops used to dry-hop
- Very well received
- Took longer to clean up than to actually brew (the boil was only 20 minutes)
- SK's homebrew IPA
- Clean and dry
- Finished fast, higher ABV than expected (started at 1.060 instead of 1.054)
- MP's homebrew IPA
- White Labs WLP-060 American Ale
- Big difference in the flavor profile of the Nectaron hop compared to TG's IPA that came from using the hop in the boil (as MP did) versus at flameout (as TG did)
- Less of the fragile hop notes in this one compared to TG's
- Vanilla
- Tangent on wort oxygenation
- Goal if oxygenating wort is 8-10 ppm O2
- Most commercial breweries don't measure, but when measured, most are well-below or well-above this mark
- Important for yeast health, especially if reusing yeast
- If there's not enough oxygen, the yeast will go into anaerobic respiration, which results in acid formations
- CB's homebrew IPA
- Supposed to be a clone of Ballentine XXX
- Fuggle hops
- Clove-y, band-aid-y, phenolic
- CP's "Musk of the Minotaur" (Hoof Hearted Brewing, Marengo) IPA
- Tastes like a signature Hoof Hearted IPA - where does this signature come from?
- Working theory is it's the yeast strain common in a lot of their beers
- Not bad, definitely has a Nectaron hit
- AW's historic beer
- "Musty socks" (not a bad thing)
- Very tart
- "Decorative soap"
- "Lozenge candy"
- Grapefruit-like sweetness, then bitterness that lingers around
- Tried mixing with BM's homebrewed IPA to interesting results
