- MOQ from others is commonly 48 or 72 (depending on vendor and style)
- Prices subject to change
- Jason's 7-year-old German Tettnang hops (YCH 2017)
- Left in the freezer for 7 years
- Still smells pretty decent
- Lambics? They use old hops...
- SK's Heart State Brewing (Columbus) "Strings" Amber Ale
- Not very pronounced
- "Tastes like beer"
- Very normal
- Some Crystal malt notes got picked up, caramel notes
- JB's Bickerdyke's Oktoberfest Festbier
- Start at 62 degrees, then drift up on its own to high 70s, low 80s
- Not fermented super hot
- German lager yeast, but not lagered (not necessary with modern temperature control capabilities)
- On the drier end (compared to other commercial Oktoberfest beers)
- JB's Bickerdyke's Pawpaw Hefeweizen
- Froze the fruit first, did not pasteurize, and it still didn't infect the beer
- Plan was to add at the 50% attenuation mark, but by the next day (and next measurement), it was already down to 1.019
- Phenols (clove) are noticeable, maybe some esters (banana), but not much
- Easy drinking beer
- TG's Left Hand Brewing (Longmont, CO) Milk Stout Nitro
- Smokiness is immediately noticeable
- Not so soft
- Bland, but creamy
- Not a lot of odor, either
- Nitro might be contributing to its texture
- Expect bolder flavor given its colors, but it's thin
- Would be good in chilii
- Reminiscent of Speckled Hen golden nitro
- CB's Bell's (Kalamazoo, MI) Two Hearted IPA and clone
- Real one is ever so slightly darker
- Lot of 2-row, probably something else (maybe crystal 40?), CB can't remember
- All centennial hops
- CO2 is probably playing some effect in taste differences
- Bitterness is about right, flavor is about right
- JB's Bickerdyke's IPA
- Simcoe, Citra
- Pilsner malt
- Little dank, probably coming from the Citra hops
- AW isn't a fan of IPAs, but this is well done
- Hides its bitterness really well
- AW's Rhinegeist (Cincinnati) Skeleton Ale with Blanc Grapes
- Pineapple
- Lot of grape
- Too much "white wine" with only a dab of beer
- SK's Gatorale
- Gatorade Frost Glacier Freeze (blue) and Cellar Science Cali Ale
- Looks like dirty dish water
- Smells like dirty dish water
- Alkaseltzer if it had more chemicals
- Just the chemical taste is left, no sweetness
- Somehow, it gets better after the first few sips
- Next month
- Bring your commercial examples of stouts (or porters)
- Consider having your fermentation started by next meeting to have it done by the December meeting
- Some fermentations will go faster, it depends on your yeast...
